Trinidad and Tobago is a twin island republic that boasts some of the highest ethnic diversity in the Caribbean region. Located at the intersection of multiple diasporas Trinidad and Tobago has often been referred to as the “Rainbow Republic”. It is home to people of African, Indian, Chinese and Latin American descent who come together to form a population of 1.3 million.
Part of the industrial Caribbean, Trinidad and Tobago depends primarily on oil and natural gas revenue rather than tourism. Evolving as an oil producing nation, service is not our main priority, therefore, you may not be catered to like a tourist but, if you allow it, you will be welcomed like an old friend.
As the home of the world’s largest and longest Carnival, fun is in our blood. Camaraderie and fellowship is everywhere and will be yours to access and build community with. We encourage all students to use their time in Trinidad and Tobago to find the versions of themselves that can only grow in the sunshine.
Trinidad and Tobago is also home to the University of the West Indies, St. Augustine Campus where students will enroll to complete their degree requirements while on study abroad. Students will join a robust campus community that includes students from across the Caribbean region and the world.
